Contrary to the fact that Microsoft revealed plans of selling its feature phone business to FIH mobile in May, a new feature phone from the tech giant, Nokia 216 was announced yesterday.
Rumors have been circulating that this might be the last phone produced by the company, but an official statement from them stressed that it will be in charge of the feature phone business until the deal is sealed. A representative of the company has this to say:
In May 2016, we announced Microsoft reached an agreement to sell the company’s entry-level feature phone assets to FIH Mobile Ltd., a subsidiary of Hon Hai/Foxconn Technology Group, and HMD Global Oy. The transaction is expected to close in the second half of 2016, subject to regulatory approvals and other closing conditions. Until the closing of the transaction, Microsoft continues to run the feature phone business.
The phone sports a 2.4-inch QVGA screen and a 0.3 Megapixel camera on the front and rear. It runs on Series 30 OS with the Opera Mini browser. Single and dual-SIM variants plus three colors of the device are available. A battery with 1,020 mAh capacity powers the phone and can last up to 19 days on standby when fully charged and has 18 hours of talk time.
It will be available in India for $37 as from next month.
